It is difficult to learn Photoshop straightforwardly, especially if you’re not used to it. Even though Photoshop is the most powerful photo-editing program available, it can still be fun to learn how to use.
Explore. Adobe Photoshop should be used as a learning tool. Even if you don’t know the basics, no instruction books can replace a few hours of playing with the software. To get a feel for the basics of the software, play around with any random image. This is why it is the #1 rule. It is also fun, especially if there are many images. The best way to learn these things is to search the internet or listen to Photoshop experts. One example of this would be “cloning” and “image layering”. These are tasks that Photoshop can do, but they usually require more steps than the basic ones or require the use of multiple basic features.
You can read about these techniques or look them up on the internet. You can find many YouTube videos that show how certain techniques in Photoshop. They are all free to your use. Expert classes don’t need to be expensive. It’s often the people with more experience that matter most.

My experience in photo editing is limited, to be honest. I don’t have “Photoshop”, nor am I a professional photographer. To do basic editing on some photos that I wanted to use for my website, I considered buying some photo editing software. A friend mentioned that there was a free program that can do everything “Photoshop” can do.
I was immediately adamant that it was free. It was a trial version, I thought. I was wrong. It is truly free. It’s also known as “open source”. So I downloaded it, and started experimenting with it. To be honest, my first reaction was frustration. The application is very powerful and can do a lot more than I needed. I found helpful tutorials online and was soon up and running. GIMP is the name of the software. GNU Image Manipulation program stands for it.
I’m not a professional, as I said at the beginning of this article. This is because I know there are better ways to do what I do with GIMP. It works for me, so I accept it. Simple is my favourite thing. Let me share with you this cool project I did with GIPM stuff a few days back. The idea came to me while I was looking at photos of my 8-year-old son learning how to surf. I wanted to do something for him. So I went online and looked at pictures of “real” waves.
